CAPTURE YOUR READERS IMAGINATION WITHOUT A PUBLISHER!

What they the publisher’s don’t tell you is how much disappointment you will go through, and how little advertisement/promotions they’ll spent on your book...So why would you want to sign in the first place?

It is because they sold you their glitz, or pass success stories but this could be a high tale sign of cracks plastered over potential problems, do not be fooled contact their authors if possible…and find out what their experience was before your first meeting.

Most people do not have their lawyer present until the contract is in their hands, if you are living on a fix budget, and a lawyer is expensive to retain you will have to be your own advocate.

Once you can get pass the glitz and pass the success stories and signing bonus/advancements talks it is all a distraction, to what you should really be asking.

Ask: “What is the promotion budget for my book?”

Your contract should have a budget cap so ask, “What is the budget cap on my contract?”

Or “What kind of budget cap can I expect on my contract?”

They might say “Oh we don’t discuss that yet.” or “let’s not discuss that.”

Your reply “Then what I’m I doing here?” or you can say “I don’t think when my lawyer reads the contract it will be worth the visit. Give me a real number to bring back.”

Now remember to look into their eyes each time, watch them pause, stumble or blerb, their facial tension will let you know where you really fit into their plans.

You might never get a straight up answer. If a number is giving, I can almost guarantee you will not be happy with what you hear.

Negotiate better terms however, you will most likely fail if you are untested, but at least you are letting them know this author is a force to be reckoned with. They might tell you “let’s leave that for the lawyers.” You should politely push them for an answer anyways. It is not a time to be humble... it is your right to know.

“If you can’t be up front with me now then what type of relationship are we going to have?" or "When you can show me the numbers and a bit more respect... than call me.” walk out without another word said, If they really want you they will call you back.

If they have discussed an advancement figure or your future with their company prior, they will have egg on their face, make them feel stupid, they need you more than you need them…it’s that simple.

Find all of their weakness, use it against them, as they have on us.

If the meeting is fruitless you might be better off DIY.

Promoting online doesn’t cost a thing however; in all likelihood you will not see sales until you put real money into promotions…it is that simple.

I employ you to promote, if your budget is tight, the up side is you will develop a name at the very least however, most likely with very little impact, unless you have millions of social media followers, If not do not look at it as a means to sales, it is a vehicle of visibility only.

Amazon, Goodreads also will not generate sales for most newbie’s without a budget for advertisement unless you use coupons and enter a contest giveaway you will need to create a paperback of your eBook...Three giveaways for every 150 contestant cap is a good start.

The cost could be as little as 20-35 dollars. What you can expect in return maybe 30-100 dollars worth of sales.

If you do not adhere to your obligations a very bad review might be in your future, so be sure to have the money at your disposal or borrow the money from friends and family.

If you are loner and or everyone you know is poor you’ll have to take matters into your own hands.

The worse thing to do is work a nine to five then come home and write is daunting, go for a part time instead or ask for less hours but make sure you always have a means to pay your bills.

In the meantime sign up for assistance, chances are you qualify or already receive support, so make sure to have them pay for your rent or gas and light. In some states they may prolong your benefits if you let them know your are a writer/blogger.

Sometimes finding a job is hard, don’t be shameful collect cans however, away from your neighborhood. You do not want your friends and grandma saying (times must be hard for so and so)

If you cannot stomach the notion, then fill out online advertisement forms, usually after an hour or more you’ll find 25 - 50 dollars owed to you, but make sure to do so from a reputable company.

Also create a moniker so people know who you are for example: The New Crime Author M.G Stravagar Presents Hope River (Free Download)

New crime definition: A crime committed in a unique fashion or not indicative of the crime genre or its subgenre.

Remember find something to make you stand out as an independent author.

Later you can create a free and fast logo online, since I’m old fashion I do it all on my P.C using picture it.

Most writers do not want to promote their works in this fashion or under any circumstances however, that is a critical mistake, for those of you who have no choice or desire to dive deep should avoid frustration, YouTube and Goodreads is the better way to promote yourself and your books.

Word press and Blogger will give you a professional look, most important the way you use social media can make a big impact in name recognition and in sales.

Write or produce an instructional video particularly a how to use Goodreads…etc, it appears if one has a highly professional voice and video, they fare better, even nerdy voices too! If you fall in the center you may want a friend to be your spokesperson or play up your voice…experiment is the key.

An unknown author should be proactive, and create their own contents, make it stand out from everyone else, talk about your book, then do something corky, weird or set up something where a funny situation enters into the scene; this could be a viral effect you will need to build upon.

If you are hoping for more with less asks yourself are you famous?

Giveaways Contest on amazon or Smashwords is likelihood how an indie author will make any sales in today's saturated market. If you instead give away your book for free remember to give half the book away, and link it out to your newsletter, for the other half, your readers emails are vital to your future success.

It is far better you create instead a small version of your book, because the reader will feel as if he/she got an awesome deal and recommend it to friends and family...etc that will likely translate to sales.

Clearvoice allows you to hire freelance writers, and is a good way to obtain exposure but with a tight budget to none Superwriter Icon award gives the author an invaluable tool and is FREE to sign up, the goal is to write a story about you and your books, maybe an interview in exchange leave a link on your website and books. You must have at least two books when submitting.

Hampton Book Award operates slightly different is another one my personal fav...

Remember the more of a presence you have online will help generate sales, you can have the best plot or concept for a novel but if no one knows you they won’t buy or care.

Readers are finked and trunked with other favorite authors.

When I first uploaded my eBook which has gone under a number of name changes, now known as “The Spiritrisen” nothing happen for three years, around that time I decided to create a social network similar to Goodreads and a gossip column 18+ million people queried my eBooks and stories.

A gangster goes to heaven was a unique idea, and word of mouth should have been the only key to success but no one cared, I was perplex, who would not want to read something like this if you’re into crime…right?

Put it this way what you’ve written is your babe, and you want your creation to succeed, only that the reader has not found or connected with you, for one reason or another, the mood of the market is wrong…it’s that simple.

On a side note of course you should not build a network around your book for those reasons only, but rather network with people who can help you on social media.

These Twitter hashtags below are popular among writers today, and have proven to be effective.

#WritersCommunity

#WritingCommunity

#Writerslift

The big taggie you must and should do everyday at least for a few weeks during your promotion period.

#ShamelessSelfpromoMonday

#ShamelessSelfpromTuesday . . . Etc

Also whatever you do; do not update your eBook, unless a really great idea comes across your mind. For a long time I kept updating my eBook thinking maybe I would gain my first sale…nope!

In fact when I realize that was the case I still had some cleaning up to do, and have not fixed it since, just make sure these wondering free minder's wouldn't know the difference.

If readers cannot see the genius from the jump then they don’t deserve to see perfection….it’s that simple.

But leave perfection for a paid version.

If you don’t change your thinking as a independent author and decide to wait for a big deal…then you deserve to be poor and unknown for the rest of your life...it’s that simple!
